I've been thinking about building the 78 Olds 350 DX block, to drop into a 78 Olds Cutlass.
The body of the Cutlass is in great shape, with little to no rust. It also comes equipped with a 3 speed floor shifter, and posi- traction rear end.

The BOP Th350 transmission, was pulled from the same vehicle, and the guy still has the body. It was built along with the 72 Olds that I had built for another project.

The block came from a 78 Diesel Cadillac, was converted to a gasolive engine, and was running when I pulled it a year ago. Oil pressure guage, and temp was perfect. Not sure about the suspension but the car has a lot of good qualities. Opinions!

Diesel block with the large lifter bores. Decent block.

I say what are you waiting for....????

I'm in the process of building a Cutlass Supreme Classic. All my money is going into it. What makes the 78 build interesting, is the fact that, it would be simple to have it up and running. Well I suppose I'm afraid of taking on another project before I'm done with the first one. Trying to stay focused.

The first pic is of the DX block after it was built 6 years ago. The second pic is the same block in its current state. I will get a few pics of the body soon and post them, when I do.Screenshot_2015-10-11-18-37-20-1-1-1.png 20161009_184320-1.jpg

What heads are on the D block? The 78-80 is the small lifter bore, flat tappet version and 81-85 is the DX .921" roller lifter block. Both blocks are equally strong, the main issue was the main bolts being too short, both cams suck as well. Stock diesel pistons, rods and crank?

What????? More purple engines???

Not sure exactly, I will check. I do know they are the smogger heads but he did some mil work to them. I do have a set of #8 heads that were built with bigger valve springs, and better rods. I took the heads off of my 72 I had built a few months ago but decided to keep the old heads in case I wanted to use them. Not sure what all has been done to that engine but I do know it pulled like an ox. The guy that built it was and oldsmobile head, and he did a dual grind pattern on the cam, and used a 307A4 intake. He said the Edelbrock Performer Intake was a direct replica of the Olds A4 aluminum intake.
