If he had it put on then it wasn't factory. Do you mean it was a GM spoiler from another car perhaps? Even the 85-87 442's never had a spoiler as an option (although plenty of people have added the H/O spoiler).

All '79 442's I have ever seen never had a spoiler on them. Do you have any pics of the spoiler on the 442?

I agree...........1979 hurst olds never had a spoiler. If you got a 70's style 442 spoiler, or maybe 83/84/ hurst spoiler.... keep it! both are worth a pretty big dollar. any other aftermarket one is an insult to the car

peace

While neither one ever had a spoiler or wing, don't confuse the 1979 442 with the 1979 H/O. The 442 was based on the "aeroback" Cutlass Salon body while the H/O used the notchback Cutlass Calais body.

the notchback was way better in my opinion!

Good thing you're not biased... 😀

Spoiler for '78-9 442

The ducktail spoiler from the Buick Century Turbo Coupe (also an aeroback, even rarer than the Olds) fits perfectly. Put one on my '79 in '84, now have an NOS one in my garage for when I get rolling on my '78 project car. I can't see how it would fit on a notchback, the angle between the deck and the rear panel on those has got to be 15 or 20 degrees sharper than on the aerobacks.

I suspect that's what the "factory" installation referred to above was; a dealer installed the Buick item on a new Olds for a customer.

They really set the car off nicely. Not that the styling was anything to write home about, to begin with!
