The more I look at it, the more I am beginning to think that this b*tch is all vinyl. Can anyone confirm if leather was an option in these old G bodies? I did find both build sheets... 😀

The early Grand Prixs, I believe all 78 to 80 had a leather bucket option, they were called Viscount bucket seats. Only available in the SJ and LJ model, and only came in red, tan, and black. Fairly rare option but I see GPs come up on ebay occasionally with them. Most are cracked due to age and no care.

I should have added that since all the divisions shared the same cloth and vinyl bucket seats, if a non-Pontiac division offered the Viscounts, it would be highly likely they would be the same seat....a tall back with an opening where your head would hit, kinda looks like the head rest a masseuse would use.

According to your second post, thest are the one with the hole in the heqad rest? If so, I have a pair of these seats I bought along with many other parts off an 81 GP LJ. Do you know if anyone make replacement leather for these seats?

Not sure. There are a few firms that are selling genuine original cloth, they made have the leather. Can't remember the names though. Try Googling like OEM Upholstery. A good auto upholstry shop should have a line on where to get it. I was gonna say black is black, but the grain and feel could differ I guess.

According to my American Car ID Numbers book 1970-1979 only the Pontiac Grand Prix had the leather option in 78 and 79 none of the other Gbody's had that option in 78 and 79.

That sounds about right to me, but I wasn't absolutely sure.
The 80 GP brochure makes no mention of leather. By 80 they were advertising comparisons to the Toyota....gas was equivalent to today.
