I've got a 79' Olds Cutlass that my grammy got brand new. The old 260 is tired and "gutless" so i got an LT1 to put in. I've got most of my bugs worked out and got the wiring and fuel system pretty much done and the engines almost ready to go in... My issue is that with the switch from olds to chevy motors I've had to swap the motor mounts to the frame. So i put in a pair of mounts for the vin code H chevy motor that was available that year and the those went in just fine.

My bump in the road is that i needed to get the motor mount brackets off the side of a chevy SB. From what i had seen and read on other threads about these swaps is all i needed was any sbc motor mount bracket set. so i got some on craigslist...

Though the motor mounts hold the engine brackets very nicely. when i bolted the brackets up to the engine and tried... tried to drop the motor in something was obviously amiss.

the motor looks like it wants to drop in but there is no doubt not going to go.

my Question?... should i be looking at getting motor mount brackets (the ones that bolt on the engine) for a G-body V-8 specific or are the frame mounts the issue? I'm under the impression the frame mounts are fine, according to my cutlass FSM. so that leaves me with the engine side of the mount.

thanks in advance for any help.

If you have the 305 specific engine and frame mounts it should drop in. If it won't line up -- you have the wrong parts.

I've got the right mounts to the frame but i just need to know if i need the mounts that bolt to the engine that are g-body chevy specific. Or can i use them off any other SBC V-8 meant for a car.

BTW what's the technical name for the mounts that bolt to the engine. i herd a guy call them by a name but even after the third attempt i still couldn't understand what he was calling them.

Buy motor mounts for a monte carlo / malibu. that bolt to the frame. then use the steel mounts that bolt to the engine block

Im doin the same swap with my 83 cutlass. i got a set of motor mounts from 85 monte v8 305. i have not done a test fit of the lt1 in my cutlass but i have heard that you may need to flip the passenger mount upside. maybe that will work for you.

holy sh*t man your from the east bay like myself...wow the gbody gods are here so we can give each other a hand. Im about 80 to 85% complete as far as parts goes to finish my lt1 install. 1 mainly need help with plumbing the fuel system. I just found a great connect in fremont. the guy has a shop and drops LT1's/ LS motors a lot, he did an 85 el co lt1 swap not very long ago. hit me up with a pm so we can exchange info

all you need to do is get u sum motor mounts from an old skool 350 long as the motor came out of a car that should solve ur problem

On the passenger side you have to remove the rear ac bracket, needless anyway, then move your mount back to the rear hole like other small blocks and it drops right in.
