8.5" Rearend

Hey guys I have a guy trying to sell me a 8.5" diff from a 1984 z28 Camaro. He's telling me that it will fit in my 87 Cutlass but I don't think it would. Can anyone tell me if it will work? It has 3:73's with a Auburn posi. I can get it cheap.

They are not the same. 1984 Camaros had 3.73 gears (RPO GT4) but were not available with 8.5 GM ring gears. Camaro's either had 7.5 or 7.625" ring gears.

Those cars never came from the factory with an 8.5 so he's either misinformed or full of sh*t.

You can check the tag on it, or if you can see it in person. The third gens never had 8.5 rears only cars that had them that would fit are Olds 442s from the 80s and the Grand Nationals

Camaro axles do not have the upper control arm mounts you need on a G-body. They use a traction arm and a panhard bar. A rare few were made with a Dana 44 differential, but still have the upper control arm issue.
