I wanted to know if anyone out there is running a high horsepower small or big block with a 8.5 rear.If so,how much success? :?:

8.5 rear

Hi,
I had an 8.5" 3:73 posi rear from a 87 Olds 442 in my 79 Cutlass with a 403 running high 12's. I never passed up the opportunity to perform full throttle accelerations leaving my mark on as much pavement as I could. That 8.5" rear was the only driveline component that operated flawlessly during the 4 year period I had this high horsepower 403 installed. I'm a fan!

Their are plenty of people running high horse power on those rear ends with good succes. They are pretty stout as they are, but if you are making tons of hp/torque it would not be a bad idea to get better components for it.

8.5 Rear

THANKS GUYS.Iwas running 11.50s with a 60 over 427,and never had a problem.I got an excellent deal on a 540, and on my first pass snapped the driveshaft in two, at the thousand foot mark.I'm not new to this game,I've been drag racing many years.I'm an old mf.
