hey guy's
can anyone tell me what years and type vehicles had 8.8 with disc brakes and upper control arms. i have found upper adjustables to go from 8.8 to g-body and found a local shop to weld spring perches and lower control arm mounts. i think a 87 to 93 mustang is a possible and from what i understand some explorers are a possibility. any advice will be greatly appreciated. i have a limited budget and ths for now seems to be the best option to get rid of the 7.5.
thanx "duck"

I think if you use the mustang rear you listed, you can get the disc brakes and 31 spline posi out of the explorer. The explorer housing wont do you any good but you can beef up the mustang 8.8 with the exploder's internals. And i'm not sure but i don't think you need to weld new lower control arm mounts on the axle.

so......the mustangs don't have 31 spline axles and disc brakes?ok, let me rephrase the question. Is there an 8.8 rear that has control arms with 31 spline axles, a posi, and disc brakes that is reasonably close to being the right width to fit a g-body? i can handle up to about 3 inches wider as i have that "raked" look going on and have a deep backspace on my wheels.the guy at the machine shop can also put in gm lug pattern on the axles.

I think you can find mustang axles that have everything you want, except for the 31 splines. I'm trying to remeber the info so i'm not 100% on it, but i'm fairly certain the mustang axles are only 28 spline.

The '87-'88 Thunderbird Turbo Coupes had the 8.8 with posi and rear discs, and are slightly wider than the Mustangs, but I don't know how much wider, or the spline count on the axles.

in order to get an 8.8 worth while that already has UCA mounts cast into it, you will need to pull one from a coil sprung midsize F/L/M car and swap the carrier from an explorer, and most likely will be ordering new axles to fit the 31 spline carrier.

it is my understanding that the only 8.8 to ever come with 31 splines was the exploder.

My Brother in law used an Explorer rear, shortened the one side, had new axles made. He made brackets to mount the upper control arms to. It is in the car now - 79 with 455 and T10. Wasn't a 31 spline, but that is where they come from.
