whats going on everybody, first off HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE!! My buddy just bought an 82 elco with the 305 and doesnt have time to mess with it so i told him i would tune it up for him. first impressions. engine runs alright kinda boggy. so.....
1.plugged in some delcos and gave it and oil change.

2. heater core was bypassed so i hooked it up and it started leaking out of these little holes on the heater control valve. any suggestions?? Is the valve no good anymore or is the heater core plugged or something.

3. does anybody know where i can get the vacuum diagram for this year and motor i looked all over and cant find it. i checked the autozone website, printed a couple i thought would work, but checked them with car and this one just has all kind of vacuum hoses EVERYWHERE and im sure they are all hooked up wrong. anybody?? i have an 81 elco with the 231 and i though it had a lot of vacuum lines but this v8 is ridiculous.

4. proper timing?? ive heard 6 to 10 degrees. which one is right. everything looks stock to me.
thanks to anybody who has any input and thanks for looking.

also gonna change cap and rotor and wires in a couple days, and a trans filter and fluid.

Heater cores don,t usually plug up, theyleak. Heater valves All eventually go bad & leak. Not sure what part you mean by diaphram, I,d check O.P.G.I. first. On timing, Because of poorer gas these days, you may run better with 8 to 10 degrees timing than 6.Be sure to test your vacuum advance for leaks, their diapmram frequently ruptures.A little more timing is ok as long as you don,t get any pinging or slower cranking when hot.

Shouldn't the '82 have an ECM, and the dist controlled by it rather than vacuum? Before throwing a lot of parts at the Elky, I would pull the codes from the ALDL- it will tell you a lot about what needs fixing. As for vacuum diagrams, I have always found the ones at Autozone to be pretty good. Problem is they have different diagrams depending on where the car was originally sold ( Ca, Canada, etc). I think the main difference is minimal, so pick one and start tracing.
