I wanted to replace my steering box in my 83 el camino ss. The shaft is worn out and it just be easier for me to replace it with a new or slightly used one. Does anyone know what will bolt up, for example could I bolt up a quick ratio steering box from a monte carlo 85-88. Does anyone know which one interchange and what else could I use. Example i know 80-83 el camino steering box will work for an 83. If not can anyone recommened a replacement for my 83 el camino steering box thats new. I want to fix the suspension so im starting at the heart of it. I already replaced the springs, shocks, upper control arm bushings. Everything else will follow example pitman arm, idler arm, tie rods and so on. Thanks for the help

I believe all G-body boxes will fit. If you want a quicker ratio, look for a "WS" box. However, WS boxes are, to my knowledge, marked with a glue on tag or some other temporary form of identification, so you'll have to pay attention to the vehicle that it comes from. There are some sources on the net that identifies make/model of donor cars.

If you can't find one in a boneyard, they're available new from several sources (Internet). I bought one for my '79 El Camino and really like the new ratio and it has a little firmer feedback than stock.

my steering box is off a 89 firebird with the WS6 package, its only 2 or 2.5 turns lock to lock
