I've been looking for a V8 G body, mainly because a nice GN ot T type just won't fit my budget. I found an 83 T type regal in decent shape for $1500. I'm not looking for a collector car, I'm looking for a cheap fast car. Is the 83 with a carb a good base for a street/strip car? What are they worth?

No offense intended, but the carbureted T-Types were dogs. I worked for a Buick dealer in the late 70's thru the 90's and drove at least one a year from '78 on as a company car. The '84 and '85 injected ones definitely better, but it wasn't until the intercooled '86 that the Turbo V6 engines made any serious HP. On the good side, the T-Types had all the good suspension and steering parts of that era, including a 2.93 gear IIRC, and would certainly make for a good base for an engine swap.

It's a great starting point, but without a motor swap, she'll be a far cry from a 'street/strip' worthy car. Also, there was no 8.5" rear in '83, like the later cars had.

Post up some pics! Either way, $1500 is a pretty good deal for a solid car, and they only built a little over 3700 of them that year.

1500$ is an average price for a driving t-type. It depends on what you mean by 'decent shape'

What's your budget? If the object is to find a fast/cheap G body an old T type won't do the trick as others said.

I'd look around ebay or craigslist, try to find one that already has a swap to a larger engine, I wouldn't look at anything less than 350 ci if you don't want it to be slow. And budgets and turbo don't mix.
