I'm trying to be as cheap as I can but no matter how I go it looks like its still going to cost a bit lol.
What carrier can I get out of a junkyard that's posi traction? I heard a s10 but what year and what size s10? 4x4 or 2x4, 4.3? 2.3? I know I will have to put 28 spline axels in no matter which carrier I use, I haven't seen a 26 spline posi carrier yet.
Also what about a iroc camaro? Will the carriers in these work?
I don't want to do a rear end swap, I know I will be getting comments about that but no thanks.
I know there are different series carriers and ring and pinions, so if I get a different series than what my car comes with, how do I know what gears to order ? Or do I order gears for what I am taking the carrier out of?
Thanks

Anything that has the same rear end as you can interchange carriers. As far as which has which in trucks I believe its random. I've seen identical trucks and one had a posi the other one didn't. My recommendation is to save up and get a good posi-traction. GM factory ones aren't that good IMO, not for any type of high performance or any vehicle going to be driven hard. Also they tend to fail a lot especially going with a used one. So I would recommend a good aftermarket one but you just need to go to a junk yard and pull a bunch of covers off and see what you can find.

You won't have to change to 28 spline if you get it from correct vehicles. 87 & older 2wd s10, Camaro, astro van, firebird, gbody will have the correct 26 spline carrier. There should be a ton of those old s10 in the junkyard. I would check gbodys first because you can just swap the whole rear end. It seems like many el camino had posi.

I just cleaned out the garage and found I have 1 7.5 26 spline posi which I think is an auburn (has springs) with 3.08 ring and pinion. I also have a 26 spline eaton locker don't know what series it is. It has number 519-2 on it. Let me know if your interested. [email protected]
