RHODE ISLAND
hi all,

im having a lil issue with my car that started yesterday,
i was driving my car and all of a dudden it stalled out, i thought it might be
no fuel since the fuel sender/float is no good, so i didnt bother attempting to started again and walked to the gas station and bought 3 gallons put it in and the car started up and took it to the gas station and put 10 more gallons in it.
as i drove away i noticed that i would press the gas peddle and dont really get any power, engine almost feels as if its not getting enough fuel or something, it does rev up when accelarating but wont really respond right (weird and hard to explain)
then everytime i would stop at a stop/or red light and i would try to accelarate the car would stall out.
it was 8 degree out here in rhode island so i figured the gas line might be frozen and poured in a bottle of "heet"
still the car runs the same, some one please help.... :blam:

Check your timing it could be your timing chain if its still stock it prob has a nylon gear

With a timing light and shop manual. Actually the procedure for checking the timing could be on the emissions sticker on the fan shroud. I think my car has it. I have an 86 but mine was like 20°BTDC or something like that.

Heres mine:

You drive an 85 442 in the snow and salt? Yikes.

Your symptoms could be caused by many things. Perhaps it could just use a full tune up and maybe a carb rebuild too.

Can't rip on him too much, I won't lie I've had my 442 out a couple of times this winter already testing things. Id probably drive it more if I had heat.

X2 on doing a full tune up to the car. Check for deteriorated vacuum lines and such too.

I had a similar issue with my Chevelle. I got gas one time and a day or so later i had a clogged fuel filter and the carb had sooo much garbage in it. The fuel filter was new but i had little black debri in it kinda like it had ate away at my fuel line but it was not the case it turned out to be the gas station i got it from had the crud in there fuel tanks. Also I have heard in instances when I worked at the transmission shops people would tell me they lost there stall which was pretty much a torque converter issue. But that would be the absolute thing I checked to find out but its simple to do though. Drop your pan and see if you have any brass shavings in it which would mean the torque converter clutch took a poop on ya. Im assuming you have a 2004R. If that happens it can cause similar issues because the transmission doesd need to warm up to engage lock up if the car never warms up enough to do that it can cause damage to that clutch in the converter. In terms because of this situtastion I would sell them a external lock up kit which was basically on a switch and they could activate and deactiviate when needed. Food for thought and hope i am helpful but the converter issue would be the last thing i checked.
