i had a stock 7.5 with a posi unit 4.11 gear and i broke at the tree i was wondering would a8.8 out of a mustang gt would direct bolt in

nope, you would need to have new spring perches, control arm mounts and all that mess fabricated and welded on.
Best bet is to find an 8.5 rear out of a Grand National, 442, and some Monte SS had em. Only the 8.5 from those g-bodies will direct bolt in.

'84-'87 Turbo Buicks (GN, T-Type, etc...)
'84- Hurst/Olds (Not '83)
'85-'87 Olds 442

Those are the only ones.
No Chevy's or Pontiac's ever recieved them from the factory.

The Buick 8.5 has 3.42 gears.
The Olds 8.5 has 3.73 gears.
