My buddy and I are turning a very clean '85 Supreme into a 442 tribute. I'm feeding off of a 1986 442 parts car. Question: Will the floor console hardware and linkages work with the existing 3-speed transmission in the Supreme or do I have to swap out the transmission that's in the 442 as well in order for all that to work?

Depends on what trans/console is in the parts car....which will either be a 3 or 4 speed shifter. The outer console is the same for both, but the shifter bracket inside has an extra notch for the 4sp trans and also the indicator plate has 4 forward selections. To make it look stock and work properly, you need to either change transmissions, or match the shifter and plate to the 3speed trans. Also, if your dash has the selector under the speedo, that has to be swapped to match the console/trans. You will need the bracket on the trans for the cable and the cable shifter bracket on the transmission. The cable will be different depending on the transmission also. If it were my project, I would swap out the trans from the 442 into the supreme, and everything that goes with it, rather than trying to mix and match stuff...it can get pretty confusing going that route, trust me. Dont forget the rear end either!
