Hello GBF I was in the market for an occasional driver 1-2 days per week so I figured why not buy something I actually "want" to drive instead of just getting a good deal on something cheap. Naturally this led me to look for a solid G-body (my first was an 81 Cutlass with a 3.8 at 16 years old). I owned 4 before I was 21, now 36 I haven't owned one since.

I thought I might as well get a Cutlass with some solid guts and use it as an opportunity to bond with my 12 year old, spruce it up, turn some wrenches and make some passes and turn some heads driving it around town. I picked up an 86 Cutlass Supreme with a built 327 with a nice cam, Edelbrock intake and 4 barrel, headers, true dual exhaust, fresh rebuilt TH350 (5k on motor and trans) Above average interior, Rallys (Complete!), new rubber, no rust, no dings (except light surface rust under the removed landau) 117k $2500

There is a small problem, I have never built or modded a car in my life. After lurking here for a while, it is evident that I need to do a gear swap. The guy I got it from had it built and he claims it is 400hp+ (im not so sure) I thought about replacing the airplane gear with a 3.42, but I want a posi and I wouldnt feel comfortable with that technical of a job. The other options of course are find a donor 8.5 (fat chance) or an aftermarket solution (8.8 conversion is way out of my league). So thats my first main goal. I am looking for mods and upgrades that would be more straightforward. I am not afraid to tackle any improvement as long as I can't screw it up too bad. Im up for any ideas obviously those that improve performance are more desirable. Thanks for the great site.
