Got an all stock 86 Chevy el camino with a basic 305 small block. I'm needing advice on a motor upgrade preferably something with turbo but not super expensive! I know a swap is not easy but I need the easiest moderate prices upgrades.

First thing what would you consider super expensive? You can put a turbo on a stock 305 but you are limited on how much boost you are going to run before something gives out.

Is your 305 a 1-pc or 2-pc rear main? Get a blueprinted 350 block, Vortec heads, pistons and a cam kit from Summit, and refurbish your 305 rods, crank, tin and accessories. If you are lucky and it's a 1-pc, you can get the Summit block that fits a the OEM style roller cam. Then take your savings and put a self-tuning EFI kit on it. If you have a 200-4R already, then put 3.23 - 3.73 gears and a posi out back, and you'll have a nice ride for under 5K. With a lot less hassle hacking things to make an LS fit.
