Just purchaced a 86 Cutlass Supreme. V8 307. Pretty great shape. What I could do to beef up the h.p.? Replace the carb? Add headers? (Already has new dual flowmasters)Air cleaner? Proformance chip? Any info would be a great help and anything else I could think of I'll be sure to post it. Thanks in advance for all your help. 😀

You wont get much from a 307 but you could get a nice intake, rebuilt quadrajet, longtube headers, dual exhaust . . . If you buy them parts you could easily swap in a nice Olds 350 later and still use all them parts

There are some good running 307s.You can run low 15's and high 14's with a mild 307.How fast do you want to run at the track. A 350 would make a easy hp upgrade

Thanks for all the great advice on the previous post. Well I registered the car Friday(yesterday). Got home, put the plates on it and took it for a good test ride. When I looked at it before I bought it I did take it for a spin but it was around the block nothing extensive. When I took it out on Friday after the d.m.v. Let me say I was not impressed at all. You could feel how heavy the car is. Non responsive when you hit the gas pedal. Seens like no torque what so ever. Seems like to took forever to get movin. Even with the dual Flowmasters (it sounds good) seems like a dog. I guess my mission is to ditch the plans of trying to beef up the 307 and look for a 350. Cutlass stock=Lead slead...

So one of the suggestions that I got was too add headers on my stock 307. It has brand new flowmaster dual exhaust installed right before I bought it. I looked under the car the pipes from the dual flowmasters goes into a "Y" pipe and into the manifold on the passangerside of the car. Now my question is, looking at headers online I see they come in sets of two. Can I add the other header to the drivers side manifold? or am I comitted to haveing just one header on the passanger side. Please fellas don't rip me apart on this question (I could handle ball busting). Im kinda new to this and just asking for some info. Thanks

Just take a look at this thread...

You can make some power out of a 307. You just need to rebuild it, and put the right parts together. Its still a V8. Or you could just drop in a Olds 350. Just make sure you buy one with some good heads.

+1 to this...also main thing that makes are cars slow is our rear end gears...trust me I know...I have a olds 350 in my car now but due to the gears its still slow..but im fine with that due to its a dd to go work!

The EMC 307 on rop is making more HP and TQ this year. They are still running cast iron heads. What ever you bolt on to the 307 like intake, headers, water pump, dist, starter, can all be used on a future 330,350 or 403 build.Just make sure you don't go to small the headers or intake as it would limit any future build. Good luck
