Hey everybody, I'm looking to join the community. I found an inexpensive 86 Regal Limited for sale and I needed some advice. The thing's got a 454 Crate motor [not sure when installed, or what yr it is] but it's really clean, edelbrock intake, 750holly DP, AC, I mean everything on it. Has the 200 4R transmission with a shift kit, and there was no mention of suspension, frame, or rear end work.

SO. My questions regard beefy-ness. with a friggin 454 pushing ridiculous TQ what NEEDS to be done, or should have already been done? How do I tell what kind of rear end is in there?

welcome to the site, sounds like an awesome project if you get it. depends on what you r trying to do with the car (race car only, street car, etc.) and how much money you are willing to drop in it as far as the answer to your "what needs to be done"...lol

what do you mean by what kind of rear end? if you r trying to tell whether it is posi or not, a quick test would be to jack up the rear end and spin one tire, they both should turn in the same direction, while in neutral... also while you are at it, mark the drive shaft side of the diff. (the part that the drive shaft bolts up to and spins) count how many times it turns in order for the wheel to rotate once. for instance, if it takes 3 and and 3/4 turns on the diff for the wheel to turn once, you have something around 3.73 gears... 3 and 1/2 turns, prob 3.42, etc. it is a good way to estimate without having to count the ring and pinion gear and see if it is a 10 bolt diff cover or a 12 bolt diff cover... or aftermarket...

Yeah thats of course a art I left out. Ive got a Cobra at home Im lookin to sell because I just dont have the money to pump into it to make it perfect like it should be. If I sell it, Ill be able to get this Regal 454 and have 3 grand to play with. I know, not a lot, but my goal with the car is to just have a sweet *ss big block street car/show car. Ill take it to the track a few times, but it's more of a 'tickle my balls on a Saturday night cruise" kind of thing Im going for. So ok, I check to see if it's got posi, now I thought the opposite wheel would turn the opposite direction? Am I mistaken? Then turn the driveshaft, or watch it as I turn the wheel and watch the mark go around the shaft to see what gears are in it. now is it me or is it obvious.... count the bolts to see if its a 10 or 12 or 7.5?

What my Cobra? Oh that thing is gonna sell quick. got 18months warranty on the new motor, recertified from Ford, 10k miles, new rotors, pads, calipers. New front and reat sway/traction bars. New clutch, flywheel, throw out bearing, new upper & lower a-arms, all new bushings, new ball joints, 2 sets of wheels and tires, and a freshly rebuilt 8.8 rearend. I wish I could keep it, but bc of the times lately, I cant save any money to put into it. Id rather get rid of it and use the money to get a new car and drop a lil cash in it.

I really hope so. It's a 96 Cobra with 100k on the body, but less than 10k on the motor with a warranty until Oct 2012 a, less than 1k on the suspension, 5k on the rearend. The only defect it has is the paint is chipping on the fiberglass hood, and a ball joint gave out which gave a nice crease to the front passenger fender. Im thinkin bout asking 10.5/11 settling at 10 u think thats goo? Iono, just spit ballin. This guy is asking 7k for the regal 454

damn 7k not bad for the condition its in. and about your cobra ill ask i say about 9.5 bc of them defects but start with 10k and if it dont work then drop it to 9.5k

Righton, thanks for the advice. Ill probably put a nice 9,900 sticker on it and see who bites. wouldnt ever let it go for under 9-9,200. n hopefuly get that regal for 6500.
