I have a VIN Y single exhaust car, and want to convert it to duals like the 442 cat back system. I relaly like the sound of the stock GM 442 cat back....weird I know

Can I just purchase the following walker parts and essentially bolt them right on? Seems like it would bolt right up.

Y pipe 44294
Tail right 45221
Tail Left 45222

And in place of te WAY overpriced mufflers $70 bucks each for walker 22623, I was thinking of using summit racing race bullets for $22 bucks each. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-630802/overview/

I can add this for the $180.......seems cheap enough

Opinions wanted

you might need some different hangers but that is kinda of what i did I was given 2 40 series flowmaster mufflers and ordered the 2.5 flowmaster tailpipes for a monte SS and had my buddy built the split pipe after the converter and weld it all up on the car looks great and sounds pretty good. I wish i removed the Cat or at least hollowed it out

Well assuming those part numbers are correct and by Y pipe you mean the 'intermediate' pipe, then yeah that's pretty much all you need other than a way to mount your 2 tail pipes.

With that being said, the power gains will be minimal. True duals would be much better for power. I proved this on my otherwise stock VIN 9 engine. Much more get up and go on the highway eliminating that stupid crossover pipe BS. Also the sound of the stock VIN 9 exhaust does sound nice but if you're going to replace the mufflers with glass packs then it's not going to sound the same and will most likely be louder.

I also like the sound from the stock 442 system. I replaced my code Y exhaust for a code 9 / 442. It was a walker system, easy to install. Like silverfox said you will need different hangers, i used universal rubber hangers from pepboys that mounted under the passenger rear seat area

Looks good to me, except I don't know that i'd use glasspacks. They will be louder and within a year, the fiberglass packing will be blown out of them, and they sound like s***. My personal opinion.

yeah, i am worried the glass packs will sound cheap/crappy.......

thanks for that feedback, maybe I should just suck it up and buy the stock walkers for the $70 each.? Or even some dynomax welded?

Well, I think it's best to do it right the first time, although glasspacks could always be cut out and swapped for steel welded mufflers. I would do it right first, even if that means waiting for the next pay check.

Obtained all the parts, and put it on last sunday. Sounds real good. Damn universal tailpipe hangers arent allowing the pipes to hand perfectly evenly at the rear.......driving me crazy. Next nice day I may have to stop at monro and have them adjust the rear pipes and add some mig weld to hold them in place better.
