Ok, I have a 1987 cutlass that is Bone Stock. 307 y, th200r4, and a 2.56 open rear. It has the motive force of a wet sponge. I'm used to a 2000 blazer with 3.73's that get's up and goes at a slight touch of the throttle. So, after alittle research, I picked up a GT4 axle out of an 86 Monte SS. My question is this: Aside from cleaning it up, painting it, changing the fluid, and brakes, should I look at anything else while I have it out?

I'd check/inspect the axle seals (or whatever they're called, the ones that keep the fluid in the axles & off your rear brake shoes...) - that's just my .02...or go ahead & replace them, if you want - if they're 20+ years old, might as well, save yourself a headache down the road, probably a lot easier to do with the rear end out of the car rather than in it...

Good call. Going to tear it down in the next couple days and check it all out. Thanks!
