Hello my name is Michael and i live in Amory, Ms. I have a 87 cutlass supreme it has a v6 engine in it now, but I have a 350 rocket engine im going to put in it. I am also going to replace the transmission with a 350. I want to put a positive traction rear end in it. My question is what cars with a postive traction rear end can I swap it out with.

a rear from a grand national, buick t type will work, but not all were posi and those rears are liken 800 now. the olds 442 from 85-87 had them as well. i have heard an s-10 will work just have to have the mounts welded on. if you are not going to go for a lot of horsepower say over 400 or so then your 7.5 would be fine, you could just get a posi unit and new gears put in.

The guts from an S-10 rear can be used but the houseing itself is all wrong. Wrong width and no trailing arm mounts. By the time you spend the money to have mounts welded on and then different backspaced rear wheels, you could just find the proper fitting rear.

I do agree though that a 7.5" isn't as bad as a lot of people claim. For a street car with no slicks, they'll do just fine. I had my stock 7.5" with Auburn limited slip and Richmond 3.73 gears last years behind my 455. My brother has a 7.5" with the same setup along with a rear stud girdle and has never had a problem behind his 403 with drag radials.
