I am in the process of getting ready to drop a 383 into my Cutlass over the winter. I am looking for a pair of headers. I am looking for suggestions as what to run. If anyone has any experience with this, any help would be appreciated. I also have a few questions as to what I will need to do motor mount wise and any suggestions as to what to do with the ECM. Thanks.

wtf the ECM is trash unless you are concerned about the environment bro. I doubt so since you're going full out 383. If you want to be enviromentally conscious then get somebody to burn a chip or do EFI instead of carb'd so you can program it from the ground up! Plenty of guys on here can reccomend the right chip burning guys to approach, dont have some dumbass do it or choose your cheapest option. Don't forget all the work you have already done to get this far before going w/ a programmer - use one somebody is vouching for if you're going that direction. Personally I would just get a carb!

here is a forum member who happens to be selling the 'shorty' headers which don't usually have clearance issues if you are mounted correctly. Other type of header will not fit w/o some custom pipe bending or beating w a hammer type stuff! You didn't make clear what type of block you started with so telling you motor mounts cant happen until you further specify. 90% ppl end up using the same mounts to put a 350 in so use the search function in the upper corner it is very effective! Gl w your build and a tip i'd say r off the bat is post pics and you will get a much better response. Most of the more knowledgeable car guys wont even go into your thread unless they see the icon indicating your thread contains pics. They are tired of repeating themselves the same questions over and over (hence I told you bout the search function so you should use that for any question you think probably has been repeatedly asked over the ages fr now on!)

What engine was in the cutlass prior, sbc, olds, buick etc? The answer to that will dictate what mounts you have to use. I am assuming you have a Chevrolet 383 stroker. Look up the same year monte carlo with a 305 in it and you can order those headers. Tons of header options for a sbc in a gbody.

Pencero- I know the ECM is trash. I should have phrased the question better. What I meant was I wanted to hear input on whether I should take it completely out of the car or figure out a way to keep it in disconnected and out of the way. Chris, the original motor and the one that is currently in the car now is an Olds 307 and yes Chevy 383. Thanks for the advice and suggestions.

This thread may be of some help. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2485

Go to a parts store and order the frame side engine mounts for a cutlass with a 305 chevy or frame mounts for a monte carlo with a sbc v8. Then you need to get the engine side mounts if you don't have them already. These are known as clamshell mounts and all this is pretty simple to put together. That link should show you where the new frame side mounts should be mounted.
