Would a '94-'96 Caprice with an LT1 would have a 8.5" rear? There's a semi-local guy parting one. I was wondering if I could use it to convert my G-body 8.5 to a posi. The rear has disc brakes too. I could do a rear disc conversion at the same time. I think the axle spine count would be different but I'd be replacing the axles anyway. Anyone know what this would be?

Thanks,
Troy

if you're trying to fit the b-body axle parts into a g-body 8.5 it's not quite worth it. the diff should fit, but the axles are longer and they are 30spline (IIRC the g-body 8.5 is a different spline)
however, you can (with mods and work) use the entire assembly. do a search for my thread on it in the suspension section. i did not complete it but most of the info is there.

What I want to find out is if it would be a 8.5" and have an Eaton style posi. I plan to buy Moser axles so spline count and length doesn't matter. Just need to know the posi case will fit my 8.5 housing. If the disc brakes would bolt up it would be a bonus.

It will fit and it should be an 8.5 just make sure its not a junk gov-loc posi i have seen a few caprice rears around my way with a gov-loc 4 sale.

basically nothing (brake wise) bolts to the g-body housing. but it can be drilled and cut for the 4 bolt flanges that GM used on everything else.

If it's an LT1 car, it should have an 8.5...

Just make sure it has the proper squared ears poking out of the bottom...

Not the Fangs that the 7.625 would have...
