My roomates 95 regal has a third brake light only. No others. Hes changed all the bulbs, and has got all his tails, turnsignals ect. but has no lower brake lights. Does the switch run the third seperate from the rest? I've seen this before in Ventures and other GM vehicles and am just looking for a quick direction to go in. Or would it be more likely a bad wire or ground?

come on guys, I don't wanna have to waste any time on his car. Help me out.

Not sure really, try replacing fuses and testing the wires/grounds with a tester. This should give you an idea of which wires are getting any power.

Edit: Check the wires under the fuse box, they might be corroded.

but do they run seprate wires for just the third? I wouldn't think so but possible I guess.

like I said all the park lights work fine, as do the turn signals and flashers which use the same elements as the brakes, and again the third works fine so the switch should be good.

The brake pedal should control two switches on the car, one (white/orange wiring) for the brakes, and one for the cruise control (should be brown and another color, for olds it's black). Does the car have cruise? If it does, check this circuit along with the brake light one. If you test both these switches and wires behind the fuse box (and replace fuses) and they're both working, then power to the lights isn't a problem. If so, check the turn signal switch, it may need replacement (this sounds like your solution but I dunno, this switch might control the turn signal and the brake lights).

Edit: Orange wire should be hot with key in, white should be hot with the pedal pressed if the switch works. Same with the other color/brown wire.

even though the third brake light works? I'll do some checking

On second thought, I think you need to replace the turn signal switch. The flashers brighten the tail lights same as the brakes right? So it should be the turn signal circuit.

At least you're not having to fix a 95 lumina :puke: , the regals were made a little better but GM was slackin on those model cars.

but the turn signals work also. Does anyone have a wireing diagram for one of these things?

The turn signal and brake lights run through the same path, check the switch. The actual turn signals will work, yes, but the brake lights won't if it's corroded broken, or shorted. If the wires have power and you replace the brake switch and turn signal switch, and it still doesn't work then you have a ghost in the car, sorry.

Edit: The windshield wiper switch was recalled on the 1995's, which means there is a good possibility is was replaced. This could involve other wiring problems with the steering column. Your lever is working, but the switch may not.
