I'm in the process of re-installing the A/C components in my 85 Cutlass and also converting from R12 refrigerant to R134a refrigerant.

The new compressor has a high-pressure blow out disc. In most of the retrofit instructions I found online, it says to replace this blow-out disc with the high pressure switch from the old compressor. Well, I checked the original stock R12 compressor that came with the car and it doesn't have either.

So can I just keep the blow-out disc in place? Will this work for the 134a conversion?

I did the switch last year on my Camino. Found this on the net as a guidehttp://www.dmcnews.com/Techsection/r134.html. I replaced the accumulator and orifice tube with stock GM parts, drained the stock compressor, and blew out all the lines. I added Ester oil, put everything back together with new O rings, evacuated and charged the system. For the first few weeks performance was marginal with about 48 degrees air temp at the lowest. After sitting all winter, it now works like a champ. I haven't checked air temp recently, but cooling is now as good as it ever was with R12.

you should be fine.
one thing that most people forget to do after the install and before adding oil/freon is to vacuum evacuate the system for at least 1/2hour. it makes a huge difference.
