Kinda long.

 I am F*&%#%^ very upset with BIG-O tire.
I bought some tires for my GP yesterday with the plan of taking them to BigO so they could mount and balance them AND do an alignment. It needs an alignment because I put on some dropped spindles on about a month ago and its been sitting since.
Anyway I drop my car off and they say it would be about two hours, ok cool, I'll come back later right. I come back and see my car sitting on the lot with the new tires I bought, BFG's 235/60R15 front and 275/60R15 out back. Looks good, I go in and pay $130 for the work they did. $20 a tire plus 49.95 for the alignment. Then the guy tells me they didn't balance the tires because he couldn't get the center caps off, the guy I bought the tires from had put some silicone around the caps so they wouldn't rattle. OK I'll take it home and pry the caps off myself and bring it back so they can balance them. Since I already paid $20 apiece to have the work done!!
I go to drive off and the first thing I notice is the steering wheel is still in the same position, when going straight it's at about the 2 o'clock position. Then I feel it going all over the road. So I turn around and head back to the shop and ask them if they did the alignment. The guy looks at me and says "Yes we did". Then asks "why does it still pull". I say yeah and the wheel is still way off. So then he asks if I could bring it back tomorrow so they can redo it. I tell him no cause going out of town. Then another customer walks in and he just gives me back my $50. The cost of the alignment. Then he says I could just take it to another shop and have them set the toe since it is already aligned and that's what another shop would charge.
At first I was a little confused but still happy to get my $50 back. On the drive home it felt like it did before, so then I began wondering if they did actually do the alignment. When I get home I pop the hood and look at the control arms and stuff. Since I just painted the entire engine bay, including the control arms and shims with black paint because of the swap, I looked for tool marks. None. Even the shims are still painted, it wasn't even touched!!! Then I looked at the fender cause normally when doing an alignment you would lean over the fender, since it was sitting for about a month it was all dusty. But you can see the fenders were still as dirty as before. Even if they used a fender cover it would still have wiped away the dust. They never even aligned it!
Now what really irritates me is the f***er looked me in the eye and lied to me. He let me pay $130 and drive off knowing full well there was no alignment done at all. Thats why I think he was so quick to give me my $50 back. It's a$$holes like that who give honest shops a bad name. Never again will I go back there.

Whew, sorry so long, just had to rant.

Thanks,
Cj

My guess is they were trying to pull a fast one on you because you did not purchase the tires there. It's no excuse as they were getting MORE than a fair rate for the labor for your work, but some idiotic service managers at places like that feel they lost out on money from the tire purchase, hense no effort in trying to balance them and not actually doing the alignment.

Best to make a friend at a small hometown type shop for things like that, who won't mind doing any general labor for you at a fair price.

Letter sent! thanks for the link thebaron 😀 I'll see what happens.

Uncletruck, you may be right about the tires.

Anyway I'll see what happens, if they take any action or not. I would want at least an apology.

I'll keep updating.

Thanks
Cj
