Tomorrow my 350 is starting for the first time. 350 .040 over. 9.77:1 flat tops withvortec 062 heads. Holley 600cfm. Comp cams xe268. Anything i need to kmow before starting? Its a flat tappet cam.

Since it's a flat tappet, fire it up and bring it up to 2000 rpm asap keeping it there for about 20 minutes. And use good break-in oil with it and continue to use a quality oil with a ZDDP additive. It should make good power and be a nice little runner.

Its going in my '79 cutlass salon. Followed with a 700r4 and 3.42's with a tight posi. Hoping to beat my dads peg-legged 84 regal with a 455. We're using amsoil break in oil. Its a red color. Straight 30w

Along with the break in process just stay on top of everything like water temps and oil pressure. I remember when my dad broke his 455 in he was running around like a madman looking for leaks, checking the gauges, and listening for abnormal noises. It was a very stressful 20 minutes

Well, she fired. Took two times to bottle feed a little gas and she started right up. Brought the idle up to do the cam break in and the rockers started ticking. Then it started popping up in the intake. Like it sounding like popcorn but no backfrires and it still was runmimg strong. We shut it off and all the rockers got loose. It was 7 degrees out so we're calling it a night and going back out tomorrow night to see if we can get it running right. But holy crap, i didnt think 9.77:1 compression is much buy it is. The vortec heads with the compression and the xe268 cam make it run good as of now. I can only wait until everything is dialed in and the rings seat 🙂
