i am trying a new steering set up for 88 monte.. did the math on parallel steering (stock set up) 5 degee pitman turn left (8 degree at tire) came out 5 DEGREE TOE OUT (that is 2 1/2 inch toe out). inches are half to degrees. 10 degree left turn (13 degree at tire) 5 1/2 DEGREE TOE OUT, fifteen degree pitman turn (17 1/2 degree at tire) 4 1/2 DEGREE TOE OUT. this is a lot of toe out, creates a lot of skip and heat. i measured the tire angle at FULL LOCK, came out to 20degrees.

i am using a 90 camaro centerlink that i will have to shorten up by 1" to give me a 6 degree turn out on the pitman and idler arms. the angles will look like this /________\ front is at the top of diagram, and the long line on the bottom is the centerlink. hard to describe on a key board.
doing the math, 5 degree pitman angle left turn (6 degree tire angle) = 1/2 DEGREE TOE OUT. 10 degree pitman angle (11 1/2 degree tire angle) = 1/2 degree TOE OUT. 15 degree pitman angle (15 degree tire angle) = 1 DEGREE TOE IN toe in would be good for coming out of a corner, toe out encourages the initiation of a turn. these are all for 0 degree toe, so by adding a 1/4 degree TOE OUT on my alignment might help a little bit more, and keep me from wandering on straights (which there are only two) with that 1/4 degree TOE OUT, will have 3/4 DEGREE TOE OUT, 3/4 DEGREE TOE OUT, and 3/4 TOE IN @ the 15 degree tire angle, not perfect but looks good on paper.

this car is used for road racing course, so i have right and left turns, plus about half of the corners have a reverse camber trying to help you off the asphalt, there are three or four corner that have a + banking, and a few are just flat. in a couple of months when snow leaves michigan i will do some testing.

by using the 90 camaro centerlink i was able to shorten up the tie rods by an 1 1/2", and put the tie rods \\ parallel to the ground. the position of the hole for the inner tie rod is a lot lower than the stock centerlink in this center link.. should help bumpsteer.

running at waterford hills race course, waterford, mi, 1 1/2 miles, fourteen corners, two straight aways, about half the corners are negitive bank, that was a learning curve i remember well. i am going to try the mid ohio course this summer.
