Hey guys,Alot of peple say s-10 rear diffs are good donors. Are they all gov locks? The code is G-80,but its gov lock.Is there a way to make one hold up?I needed a 3-series carrier any way,so for 35 i went on and got it.The cars 83' cutlas/307/350/open 2.14.I've got a 3.23.gear set,so i'm hoping to have it survive a short time.Have upgrade coming soon[saving]PLEASE,no flaming, but are there any ways to make it live awhile?thanks for any help,BO

Yeah if it has the G80 code it's an Eaton Gov-Lock unit. Honestly they aren't bad as long as you don't beat the hell out of them. If you feel that you don't want to take any chances destroying your car, you should check out the 4th generation LS1 Trans Am and Camaro rear ends. They are the same as S10 rear's except they are 7.5" and come with a Zexel Torsen carrier in either 3.23 or 3.42. I beleive those are the right gear ratios.

G80 code limited slip

All GM vehicles car or truck that have limited slip (posi) are G80 code.

G80 does not determine the actual type of unit that goes into the vehicle.

Trucks will generally get the eaton gov lock and the car will recieve the perfromace posi (auburn eaton or torsen)

Again if the truck or SUV is a performance oriented you may get a performance unit (which means it works all the time)

Gov lockers are only engaged when needed

Performance units are always engaged and always working 24/7

Gov locks will generally last longer in the clutch pack because they act as an open when regular driving conditions are present. When slippage occurs then the unit will lock the clutches and disengaged again when not needed.

So YES all s-10 will have the gov lock posi

camaro, g-body or full size cars will have a performance type unit Auburn Torsen etc.

G80 is gm code for limited slip option.

Thanks MONZAZ,needed a posi for my 83'cutlass.Talk about using ring spacer and extra shims to tighten it up.Now i've got this gov-lok,its 3 series so my 3.23 will fit now.I'll just pet it till i can save enough to get UMI uppers, for the 71 ,a-body rear i've got.Hopfully someone will need 7.5/3.23/posi ,then all will be well.

I know, you know, any tricks i can use to make some base runs?Never had this car to the track, like to get a number before i start making it faster.2.14/open now,so 3.23 should ''feel good''ha ha.Thanks for all your help, man.Thats whats so cool about these sites,Later.BO 8)
