hello everyone im jesse from michigan. i recently got a 1980 IMPALA, my problem is i cant figure out if its a g body or not. when i look at it it resembles elcos and malibus from the same year. i want to redo the whole front end very soon and start working on the drivetrain but knowing what to buy will help hopefully you g body can help

All Impalas are B-body.

Pre 1981 Malibus, lemans, century, cutlass etc... were A-bodies.
1981 - 1988 they were G-bodies.

hmmm

thanks ive been doing research and started to think i had a b body. Now if i could find some places that carry parts for 1980's so far i see 91-96 ss stuff, thanksfor the input though

Technically A-bodies were pre-78 Cutlass, Chevelle, Lemans etc.

78-81 they were A-body specials. 82-88 are the only ones that are technically g-bodies, even though the body changover was the previous year. 82 is when more of the suspension etc went metric.

MOST people refer to 78-88 as all being g-bodies though since they are all the same basic platform. 8)

hey, either way--welcome to the site. if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

should be a pretty cool car. welcome to the site

The 77-96 B bodies are all pretty much the same platform underneath, despite having 3 distinct sets of styling. As with all GM's there is a large amount of interchange over decades worth of models of various shapes and sizes. It's why GM products are so ubiquitous in Hot Rodding.
