Yea a couple of my friends freaked when I showed them this video because of the weight of an older land yacht v.s a newer compact car and how the cars were built back then. I just cant get over how bad the bel air pretty much wrapped around the malibu and the interior shots are awesome!

I think I remember seeing the one with the '59 before. And if I remember correctly, there was a debate on the condition of the '59. Lots said that the car was modified to fail hard in order to make the new one seem safer (well I agree new cars are safer, but in this case, even more safe). And I remember someone was saying there was no engine in the '59. Now I'm not taking sides since I wasn't there to see it for myself.

But I do remember a buddy of mine having a 4-door '59 as a winter beater. And going down a hill and losing control. Basically bouncing off the guard rails like a pinball (were going about 40 mph at the time). Well the car took 4-5 hits and made it down the hill. And honestly, there was no real damage to the car. Now I know this doesn't compare to a head on collision, but to me that video just doesn't seem right.

Im not sure if it was real or what but I wanna see the remains of the Bel Air!!!

Keep in mind that '59 had an X frame design. One of the worst ever made or designed. That contributed to a lot of it's problem in the crash.

Here's a 4 door cutlass test:

I don't know, I guess it depends on the situation.

I once got in an accident while driving a regular 85 Cutlass Supreme, rear ended a new chevy conversion van and totally destroyed the back of the van, damages in the thousands and made it undriveable. Only a tiny scratch on the front bumper cover of the cutlass, and a damaged bumper shock. No frame damage.

I was also rear ended by a 2000 something Toyota while driving an 80s Lincoln. Again, the bumper cover paint on the Lincoln flaked off in a 8 inch area, but the Toyota was obliterated. The hood was actually bent in half like a pyramid.

My mom used to have a Delta 88 that she rear ended someone with. Not a thing happened to the 88, the other car was pancaked. That car was a tank. Way better than any of days cars.
