Not sure if anyone here knows much about car sound systems but worth a shot.
My dad gave me his old Kicker Competition subs, 2 12s, I found online that the peak watts is 400 but how do I find out the RMS so I can get the proper amp set up. 4 ohms each and each sub has a terminal on the box. What should I be looking for in an amp now? Thanks.

generally the rms of a sub is half of the peak watts. so your subs should be around 200 watts rms each. so you will want to find an amp that is 2 channel that can match your subs and run 1 sub per channel. or you can find a mono block amp that is 2 ohm stable and run both subs to a single channel . for that you need an amp that does around 400-500 watts rms @ 2 ohms.

Apparently the Kicker Comp subs have been using the same design for quite some time now so most of the Comp subs are rated at 150 RMS. So 150 RMS each with 4 ohms from what I've read so far

You would want something that puts out just over the combined RMS of your speakers, to give you a little wiggle room. Should be 2 ohm stable. Remember though, amp is only as good as the power you have to provide it with, aka your electrical system.

You'll want to wire the two 4 ohm subs down to 2 ohms, that's why you need a amp that's two ohm stable.
