I tried aircraft remover and it did not work. I think I heard this was a clear anodized coating. My trim has scratches and a few dings to repair and I want all of it to shine well. I'm well exercised in stainless and aluminum trim repair and polishing but never had to deal with the clear coating :wtf:

You're correct, it's an anodized coating.
I've heard of people using drain cleaner or another concoction containing lye to get the coating off, but I have never tried it myself...

I used to restore all the trim at the shop I was at and didn't come across coated pieces very often, but when I did I would just sand it off with some 180 on my little 3" da...

I've read that oven cleaner works.... never tried it myself but am willing to find out what works. I'm planning on painting my car this year and would really hate to have a nice paint job ruined by scratched and dull trim.....

The coating came off mine with the last ice storm. Thank god cause there are a few scratch's I need to buff out

If it's the same clear coat they used on the chrome wheels then go down to Walmart and pick up a can of Goof Off. Use a rag and rub it on, takes it off with not a lot of effort. My wheels looked terrible, I thought the chrome was completely shot until I realized the clear was just completely oxidized. Didn't harm or scratch the chrome one bit. See pictures below.

I used an Eastwood product called anodize remover. Could not find it in the latest catalog. I have used it on windshield and wheel lip moldings. After removal just polish with a good aluminum polish. Bill

Oven cleaner works really good but you have to do it on a hot day. Lay the trim out on hot concrete or asphalt and coat it with the oven cleaner and leave it for 30-45 mins then scrub off the anodized coating with an sos pad. Ive done it on lots of trim and then polished it and re-cleared it and it looks great
