I need a header back exhaust in 3 inch. Seems like pypes is the only one im finding. Im looking for a low buck solution. I dont want a real noisy system, rear exit, turbo mufflers maybe. There are alot of 2.5 systems it seems.

Go to a good local exhaust shop and have them make you one from scratch. The header-back 3" exhaust system on my '83 Cutlass consists of 3" 40 series Flowmasters, an X-pipe, turndowns at the rearend, and was only $180 at a local, well known exhaust shop in downtown Columbus, GA.

Price may vary as I had mine done 3-4 yrs ago.

anyone know if there would be any real gain to running 3 inch with a 403 flat top pistons mild cam, i can get a summit 2.5 ich kit for cheap

I have to run a 3" with my motor and it will be custom made from header/manifolds back, my friends shop will do it for a nice ticket and they would normally charge around $250...

so check around and get some quotes

I personally like Torque Tech. They have been around much longer than Pypes and their systems fit very well. I've used one of their 2.5" systems and a 3" system on my old '70 GTOs. Both were very nice and all mandrel bent. Not a cheap alternative though. http://torquetech.intuitwebsites.com/index.html

As stated above, no 3" is needed. May even move your torque peak a little higher, which is not what you want on a street car.

Also keep in mind the "local" guys system will be kink bent , which will effect performance and flow.

Both TT and Pypes are mandrel bent.

Good point shotgun. Also an X pipe and chambered mufflers like flowmasters are a miss match. They attempt to do the same thing with exhaust gas scavageing. If you want the flowmaster sound their is no benefit from an X pipe.
