According to something i read years ago a 90s crown vic transmission cross member fits our cars if funds are available i will verify within the next few weeks when the weather gets nicer around here

I've also read something to that affect. The X-member will also need to be shortened and re-drilled to work with the G-body frame rails...it allegedly works and is a double hump x-member.

From everything Ive read, my understanding is it can be made to work, but there would be some cutting, welding, and drilling involed.
But I figure if I was willing to do all that, I could just notch a factory g body xmember.
A body xmember will work too I believe.

Paul,
Thanks for posting the comparison pic. Other than also having to flatten the ends after cutting and drilling, I'd still be concerned about the X-member changing the mounting angle of the trans, etc...but I guess that could be worked out with measuring, tweaking, and fitting.

Oops! I should have read further..

It looks like more work to modify that than just rework the stock Gbody one plus the humps look a little close to each other.
I notched my factory one and welded in 1/4" plate and relocated the mount to accommodate the 400 trans and I have plenty of clearance for my 4-1/2" exhaust which is tucked up high close to the floorboards.

I think i might get one and take it to work and see if i can talk maintenance into putting it through the pipe bender and what is the difference between a 1983 and a 1984 frame

I don't recall which years '83 or '84 when they first incorporated the driver side frame extension. If you can find an earlier A-body X-member, that might be a better candidate than the Crown Vic unit.
I had originally notched and reinforced my stock X-member 24 +yrs ago, and it's still going strong.
I have a beefy Iceman X-member waiting in the wings when I finally get the 200-4R in the car.
