I was wondering how Heavy the Steering would be if I ran a Manual Steering box.
Wanted to no If anyone here went form power steering baox to manual and what the Pros and cons where?

definitely harder to turn the wheel, but if you're using a skinny front tire, not a big deal. gives for a tighter feel and frees up some weight. however the saving power from no pump is pretty much a myth (in straight line car anyway), as the pump only really consumes power while turning. with the wheels straight, the pumps not really working. overall, i don't regret losing the power steering, but in the same respect i don't regret my lack of overdrive + 4.11s, or heat/ a/c delete either...

I removed my PS and put in a manual box.

I do with it was lighter. You save the weight of the pump the fluid the lines and the brackets.

I find it better with the manual box then the ps box. much better feel of the road. even when I was running stock width tires it wasnt that bad.

Its fast easy and simple of an upgrade.

Ran a manual box in my 84 cutlass. I honestly did not care for it and probably would not switch to one again. I wasn't worried about the 4hp or whatever it is I would save since I wasn't drag racing all the time. If you do it make sure the new box is in good shape, maybe rebuild it. It did not seem to be a whole lot harder to turn but it seemed like more turns lock to lock. That could just be the ratio in the box though.

i put one in my elky and i like it, if yer moving its steers easy when stopped its harder, but alot less hard then steering with a power steering pump and the engine off. while driving i can corner with one hand, and im 5'6" 155 lbs. one thing that i dont like but i deal with is how many turns of the steering wheel lock to lock, its like 5 turns for me, but imma get a brodie knob so that will help. so thunbs up for no power steering.

S10 manual box is 24:1 ratio. 5 turns lock to lock. Power box is 14.4:1. 3.5 turns lock to lock. Quick ratio boxes are 12.7:1. 2.75 turns lock to lock.

Thanks for replies.
I may try one in the future after I get a new Non Rag joint Intermediate shaft.
