Anybody Seen This Or Tried It?

As far as the transmission cooler goes, I scrap those alot. Id rather scrap those and buy a quality transmission cooler. I don't have a big problem spending 70 to save my 2k dollar transmission. But for someone trying to do it really cheaply, go for it. If i had a route car with an auto i'd do it.

Well i was thinking of doing it because I still have my ac condensor in my car. Im assuming since im not using the radiator to cool the trans that my motor would cool better to since its only cooling the motor and not both. Might not be enuff to tell a difference but Im pretty sure it would make a difference.

I'd rather use one of those than the factory transmission cooler in the radiator. Those are about worthless and at best would only cool to the same temp as the motor.

Now hopefully it doesn't have a leak.

have you looked at the tube diameter of an AC condensor? the tubes are very small and have tight bends. this means very little fluid flow, not what i want in a trans cooler.
a much easier way to source a trans cooler from a junkyard..... just find a trans cooler.
most modern cars, especially SUV/trucks, have them.
IIRC dodge and toyota are the most common.

the trans lines are usually 3/16 and the cooler in the rad is usually about the same with a large plenum. it's designed for low pressure fliud.
the AC is designed to flow a compressed gas and a high pressure liquid at low volume and speed. as such they are rather small.
i'm not saying it won't work, just that it's inefficient and there are much better ways.

I would tend to be a little wary of a used cooler. You do not know what the car died from, and if the trans shredded a front pump, metal shavings will be left inside the old cooler, which could contaminate your transmission. Likewise, an A/C condenser could be contaminated from the failure of a compressor.
