Do you mount a aux trans cooler before or after the rad?

Not sure what you mean...

You mount it in FRONT of the radiator. And the oil lines, they technically go transmission, auxiliary oil cooler, radiator and then back to the trans...

Hope that helps...

actually, as the aftermarket aux cooler is MUCH more efficient than the radiator/trans cooler i'd route it through the radiator, then the aux cooler then back to the trans. or cut the radiator out completly. it depends on the build and usage. if it's a stock engine the aux cooler than the radiator will keep the fluid at a steady 190* or so (with the aux cooler dropping it down from the 240* or whatever first). but if it's a performance street, or especially strip, build the radiator can't keep up and the fluid temps will spike. in this case using the radiator to do an initial drop and lessening the load on the aux cooler will produce a greater cooling effect.

Ive heard its better to mount behind the radiator, for better engine cooling efficiency. Also there is a certain way to hook up the transmission lines to make it more efficient, by that I mean on the return side or inlet side, cant remember for sure. Also good idea to flare the ends of all lines to make sure the rubber hoses dont slide off.

I put mine in front. In fact I didn't find one was enough so I run it through the rad, one tube and fin and a newer style.

The aftermarket cooler should be plumed in before the rad. Otherwise you can actually over cool the transmission and it will rarely, if ever get up to proper operating temperature.

Maybe where you are but here in Texas it gets pretty hot and the burned clutches I've pulled out of mine oppose your opinion.

Yes that's probably true. I'm up in thr 'Great White North'. 😀

The radiator in my car was made for a manual transmission so the guy put the wrong one in,luckily I noticed that. I put in a cooler good for 16,000 GVW. The guy at the speed shop said it should be plenty to keep the trans cool by itself. I have it mounted in front of the radiator.

when i was still in Arizona, i completey bypassed the factory radiator and ran only an external cooler, had no problems at all. even now i dont have a cooler in the radiator, aftermarket aluminum one, and i still only run an external cooler, just alot bigger one now
