Im trying to finish up my 496 stroker build but have been snagged on this issue for a few days. Im installing the rocker studs, roller rockers and polylocks so I can measure for pushrods. The first time I had it all set up the allen head set screw in the polylock was about .240" in the hole when locked down. I dont remember the part number from the studs because I got them a long time ago. I did some measuring and ordered some new longer ARP studs with a 2.310" effective length. I go to install them tonight and I get this:

Are these sticking out too far? This is with 1/2 preload and lifter fully pumped up. The set screw is about halfway in thats it. I have read they should be flush or just barely sticking above. This is a hydraulic flat tappet valve train if it matters.

I broke out the pattern checking paint and after adjusting the pushrod out until I got the smallest mark on the valve tip the set screw is sticking out about .101-.102" compared to the photos which showed wayyyy more. What do you guys think? Run it?

Edit: I should also add that I cant find anyone with around a 2.20" stud for a big block.

Since you've altered the stud length, i got nothing on that. BUT, the only thing i can offer is, the contact pattern on the valve tip should sweep as close to center of the stem as possible. If it moves to close to the stud, rocker tip can run off of stem. MESSY#@!%$ As for the stud, thread engagement should be at least the thread dia. I believe a basic rule is, + .100 valve stem, +.100 push rod. Those look like they could bump ur valve covers too. Believe the set screws should be inside the nut to clear. 8) Good luck man.

Well after talking to a guy at Summit it looks like im going to send these back and try a set of studs .250" shorter which are a little on the short side but its the closest size down that anyone makes. This also means I have to "upgrade" to the Pro line by ARP instead of the Performance line. Thats an increase of about $40  but I have no other option 😢
