I am trying to decide which tires to get for my Monte Carlo. Leaning toward 26-12.5-15 Sportsman Pros. This car will be 80% street 20% strip. Couple of questions...

1. They say that they are DOT approved, but I am sure that it is basically just a slick with squiggly lines on it. Does anybody actually drive these things on the street?
2. If so, how do they compare, traction/mileage wise, to a drag radial?

Just want to weigh my options before buying $600+ of new tires.

They are not built for the street. Handling around a corner is terrible even when aired up and they have zero traction in rain and they will wear out very fast. Get drag radiala. Nitto has a good one for actual street use that fits our cars with a typical 15" wheel as does M&H. I have had both on gbodys & liked them both with my preference being the M&H but they are more expensive. FWIW M&Hs are the only American owned company. Don't buy the M&Hs from Jeg or Summit there is another outfit out of Texas can't think of the name but its M&Hs largest retailer and they have better prices etc. Mickey Thompson now has two designs for our cars with the new design being better for actual street use. BFG has two designs with the older not being so good on the street and the newer not typically fitting or for our cars.
