Hey guys,

So awhile back when I got my 84 H/O the guy I bought it from said "oh by the way I have a spare Spectre (or some brand) dipstick tube that you might want to put in because the dipstick in the stock tube is a little hard to get back in all the way." Ok whatever....not something I really thought about until I checked the oil level a couple weeks ago and....try as I might...couldn't get the dipstick all the way back into the tube (it sticks out about 5" or so). Outside of being a source of irritation when I open the hood, is there anything bad mechanically that can happen from the dipstick not being fully seated into the dipstick tube? Frankly I'm afraid that wrangling around with it too much is going to snap or break something and I've heard replacing a dipstick tube on a 307 can sometimes be a nightmare so I was trying to avoid doing that.

Are you (or the previous owner) sure that the dipstick under the hood is the correct one for a 307? I believe the Olds 350 and 455 can use the same setup but the 307 dipstick is different. None of this matters if it fit and fuctioned correctly the first time you checked the oil.
If the tube itself is tweeked then yeah, sounds like you have somewhat of a crappy job ahead of you. Are you running headers?
