Can I get some opinions of where to start looking, heres the situation. Put my car together built 350 motor lumpy cam not sure what, edelbrock 600, headers, air gap intake, 1986 MC SS trany, 410 rear end posi, when I drive it it goes int second aroung 2500rpm, third around 2500rpm them bogs down to 1500rpm and pings on acceleration, anyone seen this issue its fine when it gets back up to 2000+ rpm. where do I start troble shooting this

How is this possible?

How is the TV cable adjusted? I am assuming it is an overdrive(200-4r?) and it sounds like it may be shifting into 3rd too quick, might need to tighten up on the cable about 1 click and try it. Also like CW said check to see if the TCCis locking up too quick. The MC the trans came from likely has 3.73 gears in it with the 4.10s you might need to change the governor springs to get it to act right. a word of caution if it is a 200-4R, get some help from a reliable source to do any trans work as they are not very forgiving of experiments gone wrong.

It is a 200-4r and the rpms may not be accurate, I think they are 500rpm too high ( the mechanic showed me on his scope when he was setting up the timing), I changed the solenoid while I had it waiting in the shop, cost about $40 and I did the filter at the same time, there was no burnt oil or metal shavings. Ive likely put 20 miles on it now and it feels good except the bogging and pinging in 3rd and no apparent 4th gear issue.. Am I going to burn it up if I keep driving it?

I'm thinking a combination of TV cable not adjusted correctly(reason for quick shifts, unnoticeable 4th gear) and lockup solenoid acting erratically(reason for bogging at lower rpms).

Bogging and pinging = low octane fuel and/or timing is advanced too much. Mechanical and vacuum advance working properly? If your compression ratio is over 10:1 and your running iron heads it will be challenging in hot weather to prevent detonation unless you run race fuel.

Early shift points on a 200 4R are likely because you using a Edelbroke carb without the correct TC cable linkage geometry (just a guess). Start by making sure the throttle cable is pulled all the way out at WOT and adjust from there if shift points are too high or harsh. Warning! Do not drive the car unless the cable is adjusted properly. The throttle cable controls how much pressure is applied to the clutch bands. If you hammer on your car with low pressure you will glaze the clutches. At that point you need a rebuild to make it right. If I were you I'd toss the Edelbrock in the trash and use a good Q-Jet with the factory 200-4R trans bracket.

Im using the highest octane locally but I recall this motor wouldn't run at all on regular 3 years ago so maybe the high octane in town here isn't too high, the timing carb, TV cable, solenoid, and carb are all in question I best give this list to my mechanic, I may have already made it worse by driving it 20 miles.

Well the pinning is most likely coming from the trans shifting to early dropping your rpms to low as mentioned above, but the fact it does not do it in 4th gear makes me wonder if the convertor is not locking up.
