Earlier today I bought an Actron Vacuum and Fuel Pressure gauge. I think I get the gist of how to use it. Hook it to manifold vacuum, adjust timing to get maximum vacuum you can, lock the dizzy down, then adjust the idle mixture screws to get the most vacuum... correct? And is the vacuum advance supposed to be disconnected for both procedures? I don't know if this is how you check, but I put the gauge to every port on the front of my qjet to find the one that DOESN'T have any vacuum at idle for ported vacuum, found it, and put my advance line there instead of where it was which was generating a lot of vacuum at idle and less as rpms increased. It WAS in the port on the driver's side (throttle linkage side) above the idle mixture screw, now it's on the lowest port on the passenger side on the baseplate.
This is a video I took of the engine idling at 850rpm, hot, with the vacuum advance disconnected, and the idle mixture screws set to give max vacuum. The gauge was connected to a nipple on the intake that I use for the vacuum modulator for the transmission.
