brake booster replacement

I need a new brake booster for my 81 Malibu wagon. it has power barkes. I have found 2 different boosters. I would like to know the differences between both.
I found a single diaphragm for normal brakes which is what I I think I have.
I also found a dual diaghram for "heavy duty" brakes.

what is the difference between the two systems? what makes up "heavy duty" brake system?

Your Wagon could have either of these boosters. Most of the V-8 cars had the dual one it is smaller around Than the single. Heavy duty was only on the Police/Taxi cars.

Its rare they didn't make many of them. It was an option on the Police cars or Taxi cabs.

I've had my 1980 El Camino for 20 years and is stock from the factory. It's a "plain Jane" with a 229 V-6, 3-speed manual trans., non air and cloth bench seat. It has the dual diaphragm brake booster. Maybe all El Camino's came that way :?: :?:

Just asking but if you up grade to the double diaphram do you need to up grade the porportioning valve as well or no. My Olds has stock front brakes and 11.5 inch ford drums in the back. Trying to get better brakeing but the pedal has always felt bad even before the 9in went in.

You may find the B-Body dual diaphragm brake booster upgrade interesting. The B-Body booster is almost the same diameter as the single diaphram pancake booster in the G-Body but is as deep as the dual diaphram G-Body booster.
