Ran into a bit of a problem swapping my master cylinder. My malibu originally came with an iron master cylinder and I wanted to swap in an aluminum body master cylinder. I pulled one off of an 84' monte carlo and tried to swap it on, but the sizes are different apparently in the photo and it won't bolt up to my brake booster. So what's going on with this? Were there multiple types of master cylinders produced and why is there a difference betweent hese two? What should I look for?

Never seen one with a cast M/C all have been aluminum. I would go back and get the booster from that Monte.

You could get a new booster. I bought a booster and master cylinder at the local parts store for around $170 for both, when i converted my GN to vacumn.

That's the problem is that g-bodies used multiples brake boosters as well. I have the dual diaphram brake booster on my car and its the stock piece.

The one i bought was for a 87 monte carlo i believe and yes it was dual diaphram but i purchase the master at the same time. If i remember correct they offered single and double. double is better from what i am told. Any booster or master will work as long as you buy both for same car.
