hello guys. im having a problem with my 85 cutlass. the car was sitting for about 2 years. i bought it like a year ago and i put a v6 in it just to ride it around but my brakes are acting up .when i press on them its really hard and car barely stops. this has never happend to me before. iv had about 5 cutlasses and this is first time i run in to this problem. discs look a lil beat up but i didnt think wold be the problem. i changed the master cyl and brake booster from another cutlass i had laying at my back yard and still nothing .that cutlass was stopping good. can u guy give me some help and/or advice thanks in advanced

Sounds like no vacuum to the booster. Did you test the hose for vacuum and the check valve?

well. i took off the hose ,and the car started idling rough. so i thought the vacuum was good.how can i test for that? i got the lil valve and blew threw it it passes one way and stops the other .

That's the correct test. Maybe lots of rust on the discs/drums?

i was actually thinking that too. they look pretty bad. so i should go re surface the disc and get new pads? my plans are to put in a 383 or 400 in it and i need for it to stop before going with the motor.

if it continues to have a hrd pedal you may have to look at the booster itself. granted it should have good vacuum at the booster but if the pintel is broken off the inside of the booster it wont work you may need to get a new booster to remedy the prblem

i put in another booster.. the pedal is not hard. its just that i have to push down on it really hard for it to stop, but the pedal it self feels regular.

got it guys. thanks for all the input. it was the vaccume hose. it was dry rotted and it was leaking. now that i know that the car stops ill get to looking for a 350 block. and thanks again..
