ok so here's the deal im 18 workin two jobs to make ends meet now im building a 85 cutlass supreme brougham now one of the big questions is cowl hood or no cowl i dont have a super charger on it so starting to think that the almost 600 for the hood would be a waste of go fast part money my list of parts goes like this chevy 355 WITH milled 487x with stainless valves roller rockers any brand pref sugestions welcome! i have a 216/216 summit cam good between 2-5000 rpms flow tech headers an will be running full MSD 6al an mechanical andvance pro billet dist also running flowtech header, performer intake milled to match heads with edelbrock 1406 on top. now my trans is a th350 with shift kit wanting to run a stall converter in this but still need to be able to drive it on the streets. ANY INPUT ON THIS CAR IS WELCOME

answer for your cowl hood question is all up 2 you, cowl hood is more for looks then anything. its how you want your car to look, im 19 and i thought about putting a cowl hood on my 78 cutlass, but then i decided not to because it wanted it to look like a sleeper

not all your parts need to be new. The best investment you can make is time. Search craigslist. Im sure eventually one might pop up. even pop up an ad saying your looking one.

Ive build almost all of my car from used parts. It did take alot of time and work but I saved a bundle of cash which I dont have

Just some words of advice. If your working two jobs just to make ends meet then the last thing you should worry about is hot rodding your car.

I agree, not to rain on your parade. First off, I would consider making it mechanically sound and later worry about high performance upgrades.
At 18 yrs old and working two jobs, you still can't be making big money. Be practical and do small mechanical upgrades as you can afford them.

i think i'm going to use the same idea, and as for the making ends meet i mean making ends meet for this car the way i have things set up hot rodding it wont be to huge of a mountain.

Not really. The function of a cowl hood is to actually pull fresh air from the cowl area of the car and push it into the engine. If you seal the underside of the hood to the carb/air cleaner, you'll be getting fresh, cool air forced into the engine at just about anything above 20-25mph.

However it is true that most guys put a cowl hood on a car purely for looks but it's main use is for freash air to the engine as well as giving more room for bigger engine/intake combos.
