Bye, Bye TKO - TKX Installed.

I had the TKO from SilverSport in the car for a season.. never went to the track but hated the way it shifted. I had to swap the transmission...I put the first few miles on the car and I must say the TKX is in a whole other galaxy in terms of shifting & feel than the TKO.

Still in the break in period so I will update when I can give it the beans but so far so good.

My only complaint is the shift throw is still quite long.

Welcome to the club! I installed my TKX last fall. Got it through American Powertrain with their short throw shifter. Upgraded from a NWC T5... not even a fair comparison. I get a bit of gear whine in 2nd on deceleration, nothing on acceleration, but that's the only complaint I have.

I raced a guy who broke his TKX shifter and was lamenting that nobody makes one, you guys saying a TKO shifter fits? I feel like he would have known that.

No idea. But I seen that there are short throw shifters available.

How on earth did he break the shifter? These things don't take a gorilla to shift... mine can be shifted with a single finger it's so smooth...

American Powertrain has a short throw shifter, I know that much, I have one.

I can't say whether or not he grape aped it, but the guts that hold it down in the housing all blew out the top.

When I ordered mine I got the short throw shifter upgrade, so I don't have a way to compare the regular shifter with a short throw.

The shifter does come through the floor a bit forward from where the T5 had it, so I got a longer rod that brought the grip back a few inches, too. The throw is a tad longer than the short throw shifter I had for the T5 because of this, as the T5 had a 6 inch straight bar compared to the 10 inch bent bar I have now. But, it's still very quick and easy to shift. Unless I'm really on it it's just an easy push or pull to change gears. The 2-3 and 4-5 shift are easy and take almost no side effort.
