just by chance i get this 429 cadillac engine from a 67 sedan deville which is being stripped down, its rated at 345 hp/4-something foot/lbs torque, can i get the motor mounts from the caddy, the engine, and the th400 trans to fit my cutlass(1986 olds cutlass salon).I already know i'll need a smaller tail for the th400.Any advice?love for this to work, instead of spending on my olds 350

I've seen a 500 in a monte, but I can't remember how he went about doing it, it looked right at home under the hood, so it is possible. Before you rip and tear into this take notes on your factory driveline angles, I would say start with the factory caddy mounts, drop it in, get the transmission squared away, and see where you're at. You may have to either modify some things and make others...

You might also find good advice at www.cadilacpower.com. The 429 is different, older, a lot heavier and has much less support than the 472/500/425. I put a 500 in two Cutlasses but know nothing about trying to shoehorn in a 429. I suspect it would be a lot more involved.

The 429 is an OLD design. Parts are scarce and expensive. You may consider selling the package to a Cadillac restorer or a traditional hot rod builder. Take the money from the sale and use it for something else. Personally, I love the idea of a Caddy motor in a Gbody...just not that one. If you could find the right buyer, you can probably replace it with a 472/500 and have money left over for the accessories. Good luck!

looking at all these replies, lots seem to have negative points to them, having the 429 in my cutlass means i may have to get big block front springs,a transmission crossmember and a good strong rear which would make it a very difficult swap.Parts would be very sparce, the engine needs a rebuild, new lifters(because they chatter)and the fact that i cant have any performance mods and parts make it seem like a bad engine.I do like the cool look of a cadillac engine in a g body,i see lots of 500's but no 429s.As dogshit and driven said,it'll be a weird swap, having to get springs and such big block parts to even get this engine to fit would run me out of budget(probably). The cadillac deville itself is being stripped out by my dad and the engine (if i dont take it,which i won't now)will be taken for parts and the rest leftover will be sold with the car.Like i said before,i dont like the fact that i'd have to put the bare engine in the cutlass and have no performance parts for it,except for lifters and a carby. It would be a great project though, lots of power for the car too,i'd be up for it next time i get a cutlass...and some money 🙁
