good evening everyone. quick question. i removed the canister for the emissions. i went to get gas in the cutlass and as i filling the tank gas kept coming out of the fill tube. i capped the vent line but wondering if anyone has a solution to my problem. tried other places but kept getting told to get a vented gas cap. thanks in adavance

I thought about doing the same thing for a cleaner look but more and more I think it won't be a great idea. The air being displaced has to go somewhere. You can either continue to fill it up really slowly, or you can uncap the vent line and run a few feet of hose off it and zip tie the end of the hose to the fill neck, or hook it back up the way it is supposed to go.

no real reason to not have the canister. either get a vented cap, put a tiny filter on the vent line, or put the canister back on.

After 30 years of THINKING I knew what was the right thing to go fast, I can tell you don't mess with the canister. With todays fuels and the smell it creates in the garage leave the canister in. I ripped all that stuff out of my cars almost 30 years ago and today after REALIZING what it takes to go fast and done it, I want A/C and no smells and stuff to function correctly.

The reason for the charcoal canister is for emissions .Also all the fuel vapors go to be used by the engine instead of the air .And one result is better gas mileage . So I always kept mine for those reasons. I just cleaned it up and used braided line to make it look better on certain cars I have owned,

As stated by several others, in several ways, there is no performance penalty to retaining the canister aside from the few ounces of extra weight. More upsides than down in keeping it.
